One Flesh Union - Christ and the Church

What is the One Flesh Union concerning Christ and the Church?

I have posted a version of this question in the Biblical Studies because I believe it is a beautiful question to ponder. And another version in the interdenominational Discussions to see how we view this mystery as expressed in the Sacrament of Matrimony differently.

But I have really been waiting patiently and anxiously for quite a long time to post this particular question on this forum because in another discussion here, the Catholic view of the One Flesh Union between Christ and the Church was called blasphemous. Specifically this teaching from the Catechism.

795 Christ and his Church thus together make up the "whole Christ" (Christus totus). The Church is one with Christ. The saints are acutely aware of this unity:

Let us rejoice then and give thanks that we have become not only Christians, but Christ himself. Do you understand and grasp, brethren, God's grace toward us? Marvel and rejoice: we have become Christ. For if he is the head, we are the members; he and we together are the whole man. . . . The fullness of Christ then is the head and the members. But what does "head and members" mean? Christ and the Church.

Our redeemer has shown himself to be one person with the holy Church whom he has taken to himself.

Head and members form as it were one and the same mystical person.

A reply of St. Joan of Arc to her judges sums up the faith of the holy doctors and the good sense of the believer: "About Jesus Christ and the Church, I simply know they're just one thing, and we shouldn't complicate the matter."

Our understanding of the One Flesh Union between Christ and the Church is based upon this verse.
Ephesians 5:
30For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Now, it seems to me that our understanding lines up pretty well with Scripture.

And so, I posted this particular thread to see how your views contrast with the Catholic view of this greatest and most wonderful of mysteries.

Sincerely,

De Maria

"jq responds; Hmmmm, kinda like mysterious gray areas which requires a certain spiritual leader to help us understand?

Revelation confirms that there will come a time when the whole world will follow the beast: Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Buddhist, Spiritual, Hindu...you name it. "...The whole world was astonished and followed the beast." Revelation 13:3 That is happening now with former Protestant faiths saying things like, "after all, we do not differ so widely from the Catholic faith," and they are signing agreements. And dialogs are occurring between Popes and Emons.

However, this huge amalgamation of the various religious systems, while professing unity, actually confounds the truth. And it is this confused unity which forms that great city Babylon. She becomes the dwelling place for every detestable doctrine, even of demons. "She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird."

The reason the Protestant faiths return to Mother Church is because they set stakes in the ground and would not move forward with the revelation of truth. And as the light of truth left them further and further behind they found themselves in darkness. Since the wedding procession has moved so far ahead of them the only light they can make out now is the dim light that shines from behind them--And that is the light generated by the church they once protested against. But it is an artificial light kept flickering by the genius of men.

Now I have offended everyone. I have not singled out any religion but have included them all. And some thought I was prejudiced against their particular brand of faith. But only those who are prepared to follow the Lamb wither soever He goes will respond to His call to come out of this amalgamation of confused religions. That time is fast approaching as we see the progress of ecumenism.

jwmcmac comments:

That's one scenario.

However, two things are happenning in ecumenism . . . one of which is likely as you say . . . and the other is that GOD is preparing a time of Peace to follow that 'evil' time.

Don't forget that the devil is the mimic of GOD.

The devil's way will look good . . . but you and I know that putting aside the Truth will never Unite.

This is why True ecumenism is not found in denying the Truths of the Catholic Faith.

GOD Bless you and us all.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year . . . in the Truth of CHRIST and HIS Grace too and HIS Will.
