HOW Grace Is Given

Ephesians 1:6 as translated in New King James Version, "to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved."

Notice the words, "...by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved."

There are those who seem to teach that God gives grace and we have the option to refuse it or not. However, while in the RSV, we read: "he freely bestowed on us"; in the ESV, we read: "he has blessed us"; and in NIV, "God freely gave us" -- it is clearly expressed in the King James or in the New King James Version in these words: "...He has made us accepted..."

The grace of God is not just being offered, it is being given in the sense of "He has made us accepted..."

The rain, the sunlight, or the air is a grace from God. The fresh air we breath is not just offered to us. It is given.

Thus, the recipients of His spiritual grace have not been offered the favors. They have been given. They were chosen. They were predestined to be conformed to the image of Jesus.

If you are given His spiritual blessings -- His Spirit, the gift of faith, etc. -- if He has given you His grace, it is not just offered to you, but He would also enable you to have it -- in the words of Paul, "He has made us accepted in the Beloved."

He will not force you to have it. But He will let you see the Great Worth of what He is giving you that you will realize your great need for it.

It shows that when God would give us His grace, actually, it is not our part to consider whether the favor is acceptable or not. And God does not give it with the idea of "Take it, or leave it." Rather, He has made us acceptable in order for us to receive His grace.

"Yet I will
rejoice in the LORD,
I will take joy
in the God of my salvation"
(Habakkuk 3:18, ESV).
