Sharia Law in America?

Because of recent comments made by the POTUS there's been some concern expressed that he may be sympathetic toward Islam and may in fact be Muslim. There is no religious test for government office so whether or not he is Muslim isn't relevant. But is there reason to be concerned if he is sympathetic toward Islam?

Some have expressed great concern that somehow Sharia law could be enacted in America. But if mention is made of a future religio-political system in America the naysayers discredit the notion based on the separation of church and state afforded by the Bill of Rights. Yet this coming religio-political system is foretold in Revelation 13 in very strong words, even to the degree that death is decreed on those who refuse to pay homage to this system. And it very clearly portrays the United States as the beast with "two horns like a lamb," yet, "he spake as a dragon."

The "two horns like a lamb" can be correctly understood to refer to America. America arose from out of the earth rather than from out of the sea, like the other beasts. The earth in this case must refer to an underpopulated area because the Bible tells us that waters (or seas) refer to many people. The great populations of the world existed in Europe while America was barren by comparison.

And horns suggest power. The two horns, or powers, of America were based in Her Constitution and Bill of Rights which gave the right to govern to the people and liberty of conscience in religious matters. Their cry was "a country without a king and a church without a pope." And teaming masses fled to Her shores to enjoy both of these freedoms. So religious and political freedom were the two lamblike horns representative of the United States.

But it goes on to say this beast spake as a dragon. In chapter 12 is plainly stated that the dragon is "that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world." Earlier in this chapter (Rev 13) a beast was described as having received his seat, power, and authority from the dragon. And it says that those who worshiped that beast actually "worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast." This beast was also a religio-political power because it demands worship and makes war with the saints. And it's a world-wide power because we are told that "power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations." Now that kind of power is supernatural. But in this case we know it is not of God because we are plainly told that "the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority."

Because of chapter 12 we hold that the pagan Roman Empire which attempted to kill the Christ baby and so severely persecuted the early Christians is represented there by the dragon. That is, Satan is behind that persecuting power. It is this satanic power which gives to the next beast his seat, and power, and great authority. So what ever power this is followed on the heels of the pagan Roman Empire and receives its power, seat, and great authority from that empire.

Tertullian, the father of the Latin church, commenting on Paul's 2nd epistle to the Thessalonians writes:

Again, in the second epistle he addresses them... Let no man deceive you by any means. For that day shall not come, unless indeed there first come a falling away,” he means indeed of this present empire, “and that man of sin be revealed,” that is to say, Antichrist, “the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God or religion; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, affirming that he is God. Remember ye not, that when I was with you, I used to tell you these things? And now ye know what detaineth, that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work; only he who now hinders must hinder, until he be taken out of the way.”7453 What obstacle is there but the Roman state, the falling away of which, by being scattered into ten kingdoms, shall introduce Antichrist upon (its own ruins)? “And then shall be revealed the wicked one, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming: even him whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power, and signs, and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish.”7454

This "antichrist" as Paul and Tertullian call it, being established upon the ruins of the Roman Empire, will last until Christ's second coming, for Paul says, "whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming." So this is no trivial power spoken of here. And we are told in the first verses of Revelation 13 that this beast suffers a deadly wound to one of its head but that deadly wound is healed. And America, depicted in verses 11 onward, makes an image unto this beast. The image is a likeness and the likeness involves speaking like a dragon. A nation speaks through legislation. So it speaks, i.e. enacts laws, but also causes, i.e. enforces, that whoever doesn't pay it homage should be killed. So it's making law respecting religion and it is also enforcing those laws. It is a religio-political government at this point.

Now one may think this is speaking of Sharia law but you've got to remember the image created is like unto the first beast described in verses 1-10. Not some characteristics, not most characteristics, but all characteristics given in those verses much match in order to correctly identify the first beast. I agree that it is a religio-political government but I doubt it is Islam. Islam has played an important role in Bible prophecy but I don't think it fits the description given in Revelation 13:1-10.
