Leave your thoughts on Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire here

Tom, you have some valid complaints,

many of which were made in the Bible- thousands of years in advance.
Solomon: "All these things I have considered, and applied my heart to all the works that are done under the sun. Sometimes one man rules over another to his own hurt ... For because sentence is not speedily pronounced against the evil, the children of men commit evils without any fear." Ec 8:9,11, Douay (Not much different from Langston Hughes, who wondered "What happens to a dream deferred?")
Jeremiah, on godless government: "I know, O Lord, that the way of a man is not his: neither is it in a man to walk, and to direct his steps." Oh, sorry, he was talking to all of us. Well, the psalmist had a word on what happens to even the best man-made governments:
Psalm 146: "Put not your trust in princes: In the children of men, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit shall go forth, and he shall return into his earth: in that day all their thoughts shall perish."
Paul complained about badness in his day: "Know also this, that in the last days shall come dangerous times Men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, haughty, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked without affection, without peace, slanderers, incontinent, unmerciful, without kindness traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasure more than of God: Having an appearance indeed of godliness but denying the power thereof." 2 Tim 3. Wait, I'm wrong again: he was prophesying, not reporting. Could we be in the last days? (A week from Friday, say? :-) )
But never fear- we have help from either of two places: If you're in the US, take a coin out of your pocket and look at the motto. Or, go to the Paternoster:
"Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." What would things be like, do you think, if that prayer ever got answered?
