The newest, largest and most ignored mission field on earth...

Luke 14:16-24.

“Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.”

In God, the supper table has been set for two thousand years. The table has upon it all things good and to be desired, delicious things, things that enable us to feast with joy, and to grow thereby. The fellowship about the table is wonderful, the atmosphere one of thankfulness for the bounty, for the charity of the Master who has set the table and calls us to partake thereof, even sending to us a leather bound invitation.

And yet, people not only hesitate, but many outright refuse to come. Elegance, abundance, health, fellowship and all of it free, and yet, people won’t come. As Jesus put it, in the parable of the sower,

“And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.” Luke 8:14.

So the Master of the house being angered, spreads a wider net, seeking diners to partake of His of supper, of His generosity and largesse. He sends servants (missionaries) forth, into the streets and lanes of the city. These servants bid the poor, the neglected, the dependent, the unseeing and unseen people of the city streets and allies…to come to the great supper, to feast, to find a time of surcease from sorrow and pain.

Even at that though, many refuse to come, so that even yet, the supper still lacks diners to partake of the feast.

And when told there was yet room, the Master then sends the servants (missionaries) into the highways and hedges, to an even lower, more deprived class of people, to bid them come to the supper.

And it is these people, this class of people, who today represent one of the most needy, one of the most readily accessible, and yet at the same time, one of the hardest, most sinful and meanest mission fields on the planet.

It is the generation known today as ‘millennials’. They are late teens to twenty somethings young people. But they have, almost each and every one of them, computers, tablets, cell phones, and other electronic ‘devices’ that give them constant, instant and worldwide communications abilities.

They, as a rule, do not believe in God, nor church, and have in many cases never darkened the door of a church building. They overwhelmingly believe in evolution and global warming. But they do not believe in an afterlife, a resurrection. They call themselves ‘atheists’, and have no interest whatsoever in the Bible, in ‘religion’ and in living a chaste, honest and fulfilling life of integrity. They are hard…inconsiderate, bombastic, ignorant, foolish, profane, vulgar, sexually ‘sophisticated’ and promiscuous, and wanting nothing whatsoever to do with anything that might offer a viable alternative to their chosen lifestyle of dissolution and disgust.

They are today’s newest and largest mission field. And in large part, they are an utterly ignored mission field.

They live in big cities, small towns and rural areas throughout this nation. And they hide. You can’t readily see them. Yes, they stand out on the street somewhat, wearing outrageous clothing, smoking something or other (cigarettes or ‘vapes’), talk like the devil and look over, under and beyond you. But you’ll be hard pressed to stop one long enough to talk, to get to know. They’ll quickly enough leave you standing alone…

But they do have soft spot. They do present an entrance into which a savvy missionary can enter, if he but will.

But be assured, they won’t accept you gladly. They will lambast you, personally berate you, and constantly use language they absolutely know you will hate. They will talk the lowest of trash to you, put you down for your outmoded ideas and beliefs and in all ways, resist the gospel. But God’s Word won’t return void, and it is our duty, as ambassadors for the Kingdom of God on this planet, to preach the gospel to them.

So how to find them? That’s easy. Almost any area, community or region of the country will have online community forums, where locals gather and talk of just about everything under the sun but God.

In my part of the country, they go by the moniker of “Topix” (Google them under ‘community forums’, and you’ll easily find them), such as “Clarksville Topix.com” and so forth.

And now some personal notes. I anonymously (on many, you don’t actually have to ‘join’ the forum in order to participate in all areas of discussion) joined two or three. And spent some time exploring this new mission field. I do stress the idea of anonymity, for you don’t want some of these folks knowing who you are in real life, nor be able to find you easily. They live on the internet, and that’s where you must go and deal with them. After seeing the character of these forums, and of their inhabitants, I jumped in with both gospel feet.

Most of the discussions will center on sex, drugs and so forth. Many will be personal, such as “Don’t mess with Mary Jane Dough…she’s into girls”, or, “Did you hear Jimmy Dunkinn got arrested?”, and so forth.

But a few discussions, a precious few, will deal with spiritual matters. These you can enter in straight away. And yes, you can, and I often do, open certain topics on my own, such as recently, “Why I won’t see the movie NOAH”. That topic received much traffic, and it allowed me to touch upon many areas of faith.

Now don’t expect a hearty welcome. You will be hit, and hard, right from the get go. Called a fool for believing in God, you will quickly learn not to take anything personally they might say, for really, they aren’t railing against you, but against what, and who, you represent. But rail they will, on that you can depend.

After a time, some few will actually chime in and mildly support you and your positions. That’s what you’re shooting for. That, and the rare but beautiful, “Well, where can I go to church, and get answers for these things?” make it all worthwhile.

And that’s your opening. That’s your opportunity to get a good word in edgewise. Use it wisely.

This new mission field is crying out for missionaries, for Christians who know the Word sufficient to offer straight, true answers to the many important questions of life.

Would you pray? even fast? And consider joining me in carrying the gospel into this new internet mission field? You won’t even have to leave your house, won’t have to travel any further than your computer, to become a missionary in the truest sense.

Let’s mobilize an internet army and assault these bastions of sin and filth with the truth. And we’ll see which stands longest, strongest.

God Bless you! I am and remain sincerely yours in Jesus Christ,
Shotgun Bill
